Kenny Jackett

Jackett started playing for Watford towards the end of the 1979-1980 season and he was a key member during their glory days of the early 1980’s. He played regularly in his creative central midfield role through out his tenure at Watford. He retired from playing professional football in 1990 however he continued to hold his strong links with the club as he took up a coaching position at Watford. He was installed manager at the start of the 1996-97 season. A true Watford legend, playing for the club over ten years.

Les Taylor

Taylor spent five blistering years playing for Watford and his finest season for the club without doubt was the 1982-83 term, a season where Watford finished runners up in the first division. He was named as Watford’s ‘player of the season’ between 1982 and 1983 and was one of the finest players in the English football league. Another proud moment for Les Taylor was walking out as captain for Watford’s FA Cup final clash with Everton in 1984.

John Barnes

Without doubt, Barnes is the most famous ever player to have starred for Watford, winning an array of England caps during his tenure playing for the club. He made his debut for the Hornets at the tender age of 17 years in 1981. He was considered as the hottest young talent in the football league during the 1982-83 season and the following year, he won his first England cap. He is remembered for scoring an incredible solo goal away against Brazil in 1984. He spent six seasons playing for Watford and appeared in their FA Cup final clash against Everton. Barnes later on moved to Liverpool, a club which he spent nearly ten years with before ending his playing days at Newcastle United.

Gary Porter

Porter is one of the clubs longest ever serving football players. He spent a staggering thirteen seasons playing for the club, between 1983 and 1996. He appeared in the 1984 FA Cup final and made a huge impact for the club during his first few seasons. In total he has made an incredible 464 appearances for the Hornets. His finest moment in a Watford shirt has to be regarded as being in a league match against Bolton; Porter scored a second half hat trick that helped the team come back from being 3-0 down at half time to win the tie 4-3.
