Luther Blissett

Blissett made his debut for the club in 1975 and made an immediate impact there. Blissett’s first era at the club saw them to promotion from the forth division to the first division and he was prolific in front of goal through out. He is also well known for being the first ever Watford player to represent the English national team. His first spell at the club lasted 8 years, between 1975 and 1983; he scored a staggering 93 goals during his first era, 27 of them coming during the 1982-83 campaign. In the summer of 1983 he moved to Milan for a staggering £1 million however his spell in Italy only lasted a season and soon went back to Watford in time for the 1984-85 season for half the amount. Blissett’s second spell at the club lasted three years, scoring another 44 goals in 127 appearances. He had a short spell playing for Bournemouth before moving back to his beloved Watford for a third time, between 1991-92. He finished off his career playing for Mansfield and Bury.

Wilf Rostron

Without doubt, Rostron is one of Watford’s greatest ever legends. In total he spent ten years at the club and was very much at the fore of the team during their promotion winning seasons. He captained Watford for most of the 1980’s and made a huge impact at the club. He led the club to second place in the first tier of English football by the end of the 82-83 season. He also famously helped carry the Hornets to the final of the 1984 FA Cup. He has been named as the player of the season on three occasions for Watford.

Steve Sims

Sims made history at the start of the 1978-79 season as he became the most expensive third division player ever, signing for the hornets for a staggering £175,000 at the time. Injury wrecked part of his career, but while he managed to stay fit he was a quality central defender. Sims had two spells playing for Watford, the first being between 1978 and 1984 and the second between 1986 and 1987. In total, he represented Watford for eight seasons.
