He spent four seasons at the club, with a proilific scoring rate of 53 goals in 81 league games. In October 1958, Holton moved to Watford for £10,000 and he did not disappoint. Holton was outstanding for Watford in his second season, 1959-1960. It was that campaign where he scored a staggering 48 goals in 52 league appearances, one of the most prolific rates ever in the history of English football. After three blistering years starring for Watford he left. However he came back for a second spell between 1965 and 1966 for one season before finishing his career playing for Charlton Athletic and Leyton Orient.
